What is the Modern Spanish Style House?

The modern Spanish style house is becoming increasingly popular as people are drawn to its combination of Mediterranean design, rustic charm and contemporary flair. From its terracotta roof tiles to ornate ironwork accents, a modern Spanish style home will provide an elegant yet welcoming atmosphere that’s perfect for families or groups of friends.

What defines the modern Spanish style?

When it comes to interior design, the modern Spanish style house combines classic and modern elements. Wrought iron fixtures, tiled floors, wrought-iron accents, arched doorways and windows are all common features of this type of design. Additionally, colors like ochre and terracotta provide a sense of warmth and energy that’s inviting and relaxing.

Often, these features are found on the exterior of houses as well as the interiors. But even if you weren’t lucky enough to buy a beautiful Spanish-style home in one of the areas where they’re popular in the United States, you can still incorporate this kind of style into your interior design.

How do I incorporate the modern Spanish style into my home?

If you’re looking to incorporate this style into your own home, there are a few key elements that can help. Start by investing in unique doors, windows and fixtures with Spanish-inspired detailing such as wrought iron and ornate accents. Soft curves are found everywhere, and Spanish-style homes opt for arched doorways instead of harsh lines.

Another key element of many Spanish homes is exposed ceiling beams. Often, these beams are wooden and left natural or stained a dark hue. You can add faux-beams to your home to obtain this look, or strip and treat covered beams.

Furniture should feature curves and wood tones while walls can be painted a warm ochre or terracotta hue. You should use natural materials wherever possible, such as in the flooring or the countertops. Spanish-style tiles with ornate patterns are also becoming quite popular and are easy to find in hardware stores. These tiles could make a great addition for your backsplash, or even your bathroom or kitchen floor.

Plaster also plays a key role in the modern Spanish style. Instead of painting walls normally, you can try incorporating a plaster treatment to give the walls some texture. Stick to warm tones of natural colors for the paint itself.

Finally, be sure to use accessories and décor that capture the essence of Spanish style such as rugs, tiles, pottery and paintings.
